MDS Changes Impacting Clinicians - Zoom Webinar

Wednesday, January 18, 2023

9:00am - 12 noon

NOTE: CMS has not yet released the updated RAI manual and will likely not release it until spring 2023. Due to this delay, this session will now focus on reviewing the current MDS sections with a concentrated focus on the new MDS sections that will be effective 10/1/2023.

Webinar Description:

The clock is ticking for MDS changes effective 10/1/23. Elimination of section G, revision to section GG, new items that supply data for Transfer of Health quality measures and Standardized Patient Assessment Data Elements (SPADEs), and N0415’s lengthy medication list mean SNF clinicians need to rethink methods of communication and documentation to capture information for MDS 3.0 version 1.18.11.

In addition, significant changes to quality programs will be effective 10/1/23. Data collection impacting Medicare revenue will be sourced from multiple areas, including new items in the MDS, claims, and facility reporting portals. To avoid reduction in Medicare Part A reimbursement, new or revised data points added to the MDS will be required to achieve SNF QRP compliance.

This session will examine changes included in the new MDS version. Attendees will learn what new data collected in the MDS will be used for and explore the potential impact SNF 5-star ratings and Quality Measures. The presenter will explore best practices and strategies to collect, capture, and code the additional items CMS will require from providers.

Objectives:

  • Understand changes included in MDS 3.0 version 1.18.11.
  • Identify strategies the clinical team can utilize to capture data for new MDS items.
  • Understand the potential impact MDS changes can have on SNF 5-Star ratings and Quality Measures.
