Strategies for Success:  Enhancing the Skills of the Frontline Nurse in Long Term Care

Program Description:

The Massachusetts Senior Care Association is pleased to offer this 4-week workshop that provides an opportunity to learn new skills, fine-tune existing knowledge, explore values-based leadership and operationalize the skills and competencies that nurses in long term care need. This course is designed to equip frontline nurses to respond to increased patient acuity and clinical outcome expectations in a rapidly evolving and competitive health care delivery system.



This program is geared for frontline nurses (RNs and LPNs) in the long term care or sub-acute setting.  This course will be limited to 30 participants only.  Space is limited so register now!   



Objectives: At the conclusion of this program, participants will be able to:

•Define the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary for nursing in the LTC setting;

•Identify elements of critical thinking and the nursing process;

•Communicate changes in condition and transitional information effectively;

•Describe Common Geriatric Syndromes and Chronic Conditions in LTC;

•Identify common infections; their presentation, treatment and prevention;

•Describe commonly used medications and their indications for appropriate use;

•Identify non-pharmacological interventions for the management of behavior issues in dementia;

•Interpret common laboratory results; and

•Discuss Palliative and Hospice Care in the LTC setting

Faculty:

Carol Kronopolus, MS, RN, Nursing Professional Development - Leader in Career Development Coordinator & Educator, Hebrew Senior Life.  A graduate of Fitchburg State University and the University of Massachusetts Graduate School of Nursing in Worcester, Carol has 40 years of experience as a Director of Nursing, Nursing Instructor, Pediatric Nurse and Clinical Coordinator.

All classes are on Thursdays from 8:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.

May 17, 24, 31 and June 14, 2018  



This 4-week program will award a Certificate of Completion and up to 24 Continuing Education credits.   



Fee: Includes lunch and all materials

$500 for Mass Senior Care Members        $750 for Non-Members



Cancellation Policy:

Mass Senior Care must be notified no later than 48 hours prior to the start time of the first class for a credit of equal amount to be issued to your Mass Senior Care account.  Refunds will not be issued except for a visit from State Surveyors and “No Show” attendees will be billed at the full registration fee.
